Sharing Web Resources

What specific section(s) or information seemed particularly relevant to your current professional development?
This week’s assignment I decided to research the http://www.naccrra.org/ website. I decided upon this link because I believed wholeheartedly in their mission statement and vision which states:
Our Vision
“A nation that supports the development and learning of all children.”

Our Mission
“To promote national policies and partnerships to advance the development and learning of all children and to provide vision, leadership, and support to community Child Care Resource and Referral.”

Professionally I want to be effective and most importantly I want to make a difference in the lives of all children I come across and have the necessary resources which could help them reach their full potential developmentally.

Which ideas/statements/resources, either on the website or in an e-newsletter, did you find controversial or made you think about an issue in new ways?
From exploring the website I was came across the parent newsletter titled, “Are We Leaving Children to Chance?” The newsletter caught my eye from the title alone and I am pleased with myself for taking the time to actual read the article, because the information provided was very informational.  The article discussed the various qualifications for child care centers and provided, the numbers from research, licensing requirements and how being aware of this things could influence the well-being of the child. As an aunt and educator it made me want to make sure the childcare provider my niece and nephew attended, met all the quality qualifications and If not help them get into centers which were enriching.

What information does the website or the e-newsletter contain that adds to your understanding of how economists, neuroscientists, or politicians support the early childhood field?
The website provides a link which focuses primarily on the early childhood field and when you scroll over the links you are to find important information for each state, parents and the high cost of childcare, and other topics which deal with the economists, neuroscientist, and politicians perspective or insight.

What other new insights about issues and trends in the early childhood field did you gain from exploring the website or e-newsletter?
Also, from exploring the website I was able to get information on school readiness, quality care, information from a parents perspective , and  information on licensing, just to name a few.  I found the information very insightful for me professionally, and plan on sharing my findings with my colleagues and parents.

  1. Sha'Keema, thanks for pointing out what parents should look for when choosing an early learning center for their child. I've always said it's best to have a friend in every profession b/c you never know when you may need their professional opinion or insight. So, for all my friends who have children in day care, they turn to me to make sure they are providing their children with the best affordable child care services. I'm glad that I'm able to educate them on child development issues along with help them communicate with their child's caregiver b/c most parents don't know what to look for or what questions to ask.

  2. Sha'Keema you shared some very worthwhile information in your post. It is so important as parents as well as educators to stay current on information that effects early childhood in both a positive and negative way. And it is essential that parents who are seeking child care know what to look for in terms of quality. I would recommend that all parent that have children stay abreast of all issues that may impact their children.

  3. The parenting newsletter is very beneficial for those who don't know what to expect from a child care center. This is definitely something you would want to know as a parent because we all know that the learning starts HERE! If the foundation is broken, it could possibly affect their lives long-term. Good thing you were made aware of this early on so that you can be on the "look-out" for your nieces and nephew. Great post and thanks for sharing! I must go take a look at this newsletter myself. :)

  4. Sha'Keema,

Lately, I’ve also patted myself in the back for taking the time to read the articles presented in the websites. I’m glad to hear that you gained information that helped you and provided different perspectives on the current issues. and most of all that you are willing to share with those that surround you.

  5. Hello Sha’Keema,
What a great post! Advocating for education is so important. Not only will it help society at large but it will give children an opportunity to all children to truly have a childhood and not fall in the cycle of the justice system. Thank you for referencing the website “Voices for American Children”; I am putting it on my reference list.
